Blind Vendors Committee: Healthy Vending Initiative

The Delaware Division of the Visually Impaired (DVI) partnered with the Blind Vendors Committee within the Business Enterprise Program (BEP) to ensure healthier vending options are available in state buildings for state employees and customers. Pilot interventions which replaced some products that were rated unhealthy, (i.e. high in fat, sugar, and salt) with healthier options were implemented. Data on purchase of healthy options, taste tests with healthier options, and surveys of users were conducted. Based on the results of the pilot interventions, a decision was made to increase the mix of healthier snack alternatives to 40%.
